Here I sit in my student center at my school. Beautiful purple shirt. Beautiful purple suspenders. White shorts …as well as three more things that are killing me.
It’s one thing to wear purple in support of this anti-bullying/LGBT movement and in memory of these young lives that succmbed to the harsh emotions that they simply could not overcome. It’s another to know exactly what these boys and countless other teens across the world feel every single day. Even living in San Francsico, I still have feelings towards others and about myself that people should never have. Luckily, I am past the point of assuming that things won’t get better. It was a very long and painful road, but I made it to the other side. Thankfully.
I hope that these boys can see what is happening from up above. There’s so many people in purple at my school and so much internet support for this movement that, unfortunately, would never have happened if they did not take their lives. We’re here today to fight for them. Every day.
As for the other two things that are killing me, well,
Tyler Clementi, Asher Brown, Seth Walsh, Justin Aaberg, Raymond Chase and Billy Lucas…
Boy, I know your feet hurt. I know those shoes are tight. But walk on, walk on. Leave your head high. Show them how you’re living, boy. Work the room all night. Then walk on, walk on. Keep your head up high.
Fight for what you know is love and keep yourself strong. Boy, believe you’ll be alive…
